Taking a close look at my Steam wishlist recently, I realized there’s a recurring theme in the last three games that caught my eye and earned an “instant wishlist” status. COLOR! It cracked me up, so I decided I had to share them with you.
01. Tossdow
An Amazon delivery guy with the mother of all jinxes.
Tossdown immediately brings to mind the glory days of the Dreamcast and Jet Set Radio. You play as a delivery driver being attacked from every possible direction by… well, everything.
The game is developed by Fer Factor, a Nigerian studio led by a passionate solo developer.
The title will be published by Acclaim. Yes, that Acclaim, the legendary 90s publisher (Mortal Kombat, Turok). Since the original company went bankrupt ages ago, some clever entrepreneurs bought the brand to turn it into an indie game publisher.
The genre is defined as an “Action Roguelite Bullet Hell Runner.” I’m sold. That is 100% my jam.
02. DENSHATTACK
Insane kickflips with a choo-choo train.
Denshattack is easily one of the wildest concepts I’ve seen all year. You control a train as a skateboard, all wrapped in a saturated, slightly retro cel-shaded art style.
This gem is developed by the Barcelona-based Undercoders (known for the adorable Mail Mole) and published by Fireshine Games.
The studio seems to have inhaled a heavy dose of Jet Set Radio inspiration again, but mixed with a bit of Katamari Damacy chaos and high-speed F-Zero energy.
Cherry on Top: To make this feel even more like a masterpiece, the soundtrack is composed by Tee Lopes (Sonic Mania). It’s basically a guaranteed banger.
03. Dosa Divas
Two sistas and a chef-bot taking down the fast-food industry
Following the success of Thirsty Suitors, Outerloop Games is back with a game that looks absolutely insane.
The plot: Two sisters travel the world in a robot food truck, fighting the fast-food culture with frying pans.
The devs describe it as a “spicy” native game. If you are not an English narrative reader, spicy is a great double entendre as it refers to the chili in the food, but also to saucy or romantic plotlines. Are we getting some steamy dialogue? Or just wholesome romances? I can’t say for sure yet.
What I do know is that it’s a turn-based RPG centered around Indian, Pakistani, Sri Lankan cuisine… and giant robot fights.
It’s definitely worth a look. And if you really need more convincing: at the 25-second mark of the trailer, the protagonist literally bounces a frying pan off her butt. Truly, peak gaming.
